10 October 2023 - HIS MAJESTY THE SULTAN AND YANG DI-PERTUAN OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM RECEIVES IN AUDIENCE HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE KINGDOM OF THAILAND; AND ATTENDS A BILATERAL MEETING

Bandar Seri Begawan, Tuesday, 10th October 2023

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, this afternoon received in audience His Excellency Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. The Audience Ceremony was held at Cheradi Laila Kenchana, Istana Nurul Iman.

Present at the Audience Ceremony were members of the Royal Family.

Prior to the Audience Ceremony, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam welcomed His Excellency the Prime Minister of Thailand, and subsequently introduced His Excellency to members of the Royal Family.

Also in attendance were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health as Minister-in-Attendance.

Bilateral Meeting

After the Audience Ceremony, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam proceeded together with His Excellency the Prime Minister of Thailand for a Bilateral Meeting that took place at Baitul Mesyuarah.

During the Bilateral Meeting, His Majesty delivered a titah extending a warm welcome to His Excellency as well as delegation on his first official visit to Brunei Darussalam and congratulated him on his recent appointment as the Prime Minister of Thailand.

His Majesty stated that His Excellency’s visit reflects the continued close and longstanding relations between Brunei Darussalam and Thailand and expressed happiness that both countries will celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.

In this regard, His Majesty looked forward to working closely with His Excellency in further enhancing the goodwill and friendship between the two countries and its people.

Finally, with respect to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, His Majesty extended condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families and communities who have lost their loved ones, and expressed hope that the international community can facilitate a ceasefire and avoid more loss of innocent lives.

During the Bilateral Meeting, discussions touched on bilateral cooperation in various sectors including energy, food security, agriculture, fisheries, education, tourism, health, and people-to-people exchanges, as well as the exploration of opportunities for future investment in areas of mutual interest to both countries.

Brunei Darussalam and Thailand enjoy close and friendly relations since the establishment of the diplomatic relations on 1st January 1984. Both countries cooperate extensively in various mutually beneficial areas of cooperation including trade, agriculture, education, health, defence, labour and people-to-people exchanges.
